Because doing what you want for your enjoyment and the enjoyment of your friends is far more important that attempting fit an arbitrary definition cool or manly.

Point taken, however arbitrary cool or manly is not really the point here, they look like an item a parent would buy a child -

Its more about what would look aesthetically pleasing on your face and draw positive attention to you, your clothing, personality and works in multiple situations (work, home, play) and not be a hindrance in social and other situations.

Moving on, in design it has bulky plastic, leather/pleather sides and exposed metal/alloy and possibly may be not the most comfortable / light frame on the market if you have to wear glasses at all times.

If they however will make you and your friends happy, have at them by all means :-)
