Stoeger bought the design to Beretta's Cougar and makes pretty much an M9 with a completely redesigned slide and barrel combo. Beretta still uses this concept in their polymer PX- series.

Actually, Stoeger got bought out by Beretta! Production of the Cougar moved from Beretta to Stoeger, to make room in Beretta's production line for the new Storm pistol line.
I like the Cougar better than the Storm anyway, and moving it to Stoeger's facility in Turkey, cut costs, and made the gun even more affordable.
