A powerful film that is still probably a pale testament to the achievement of the brave men of Rorke's Drift.

Favorite character - Nigel Green as Colour-Sgt. Bourne. It is such an inspired portrayal of a Victorian Era British NCO.

In real life, Colour-Sgt. Bourne was not awarded the Victoria's Cross, because such outstanding bravery as he displayed was expected of sergeants of the British Army. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal and a commission, but he turned the commission down.
