You realize the numbers on this are misinterpreted right? It is the average overall, not a comparison over similar situations or careers. You can't compare the pay level of a 40 year old guy who has been in the work force climbing the ladder for 20 years to a 40 year old woman who is just re-entering the workforce again after raising kids at home. I'm all for equity in the treatment of everyone, but I'm tired of seeing skewed and biased numbers.
Yes, I realize that. Did you read the article? There are other interesting statistics, such as racial divides. I would like more info, however that does not change the fact that this is interesting.
At least they admit that the general types of jobs that men and women hold affect pay levels. Guys tend to make more because they take jobs that pay more.
Unfortunately, my initial response was confirmed by the official Census article. They don't (and I'm not sure how practical it would be to do so) take into account time in the workforce.
The wage gap statistic has been debunked for some time now. Men take jobs that are more dangerous or hazardous, have intensive travel requirements, and have higher base salaries. In every real comparative study that has been done within a profession, the wage gap has been negligible, and in some instances it swings in favor of women (due to over-compensatory measures from studies like this.) None of these studies are highlighted by NOW because they do no jive with the current convention of woman victimhood purported by that brand of feminist.
If I average all the life expectancies of every animal on earth into a over-simplified chart the result would be completely meaningless. There would certainly be a whole heap of data that I can postulate with, but the outcomes would be based on meandering, uncontextualized information. The house fly only has 1% the lifespan of a giant tortoise. Never mind the fact they are incompatible in these terms for comparison. Discreet categorization and context are necessary.
Are there some instances where some misogynist will pass over a women for a raise or promotion because of her gender? I'm sure there are. I'm also equally sure that there are misandrists who pass over men for similar reason.

Hmm, actually, read the article, then click the graph, that is where more actual info is.
