I have to disagree. In my twenties I spent a year working at a concrete plant making drainage and sewer pipes. There is a Major difference between drinking soda/water/or gatorade in 90 degree heat all day long.
I agree with long-term work. For a run less than 8 miles, water is fine. But when I do roofing or when I run half-marathons or more, these drinks make a large difference. It might just be the extra calories, (in which case, I will take the orange juice), but the difference exists.
Then again, confirmation bias is a hell of a drug.
