The classic Opinel brand was one of the gifts suggested by Brett McKay for this year's AoM gift guide. This one is particularly stunning. The edelweiss has long been a symbol of manliness attributed to the Gebirgsjäger. An example of this can be seen in an episode of Band of Brothers. Not bad for my first post, eh?

There's a long tradition of making new handles in France - they're cheap and simple so it's a low risk way of customising a knife.

I hadn't heard of them until Brett McKay posted about them on artofmanliness.com. My grandfather carried a pocketknife every day of his life, and it's a habit I'm wanting to pick up by getting my first Opinel.
