In March 2023, the Government of India brought Virtual Digital Asset (VDA) service providers under the ambit of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), making compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT) regulations mandatory for crypto businesses operating in or serving customers in India.
