My wife has the smaller XD-40, and one of my friends owns the full size XD-45 with the added thumb safety.
I've shot both and found them to be excellent shooters. My wife has had hers for over 5 years and it is taken to the range regularly. My friend has had his for about 3 years and target shoots with it at least once a month! Neither have had any jams or misfires, and have proven to be 100% reliable.
I personally prefer my Smith stainless 45 or my Beretta M96 in 40S&W, but I'd take an XD model over a Glock any day. The grip angle is more familiar to experienced shooters, they're priced better, and they are just as reliable as a Glock.
