He makes some good points but I disagree with a few others. I *DO* know what I want. I want joy! I want to have a joy that won't fade. What he says is "not knowing what you want" is actually not understanding the things that will bring you endless joy. That is not the same as not knowing *AT ALL* what I want.

His middle state is where you think you know what will bring you joy and you pursue them only to find that they don't last. That is a real state of being.

The second thing I disagree with is that the godhead is not an object of its own knowledge. As a Christian coming from a Trinitarian perspective of the godhead, the Father knows the Son and the Son knows the Father and the Spirit knows them, and they know each other exhaustively. See Jesus' statement in Matthew 11:27.

Also, I'm not sure why "I don't know" is the same thing as "I love" or "I let go" and I'm sure it isn't humility. There is some wisdom to the idea of not trying to control everything but please don't apply that to your car on the freeway.

That idea that this makes you "one with the divine principle" is not something I can agree to. It is an agreement with God and his sovereignty but I am not one with him anymore than my dog becomes human when he heels well. When he heels well, he is under my control and since I love him (he is a good boy) I make sure he doesn't run into traffic or run up to another dog that might hurt him.

Instead, I lead him safely to the dog park where he can play safely, where his joy may be full. The joy of chasing the cat on the other side of the busy street will not last for him. I know better what will bring him fuller joy. It isn't that he doesn't know, it is that he doesn't understand how to get it.

And the same is true with me. I want joy. I want joy that doesn't fade. I just don't know how to get it, but I know Someone who does and he shows me the way. He is the way and the truth and the life.

    Thus endeth the sermon. :)

Wow, I just asked him in my head "How do you know that the godhead is not an object of its own knowledge" and I heard him answer "I don't know."
"So," says I, "why not let the godhead tell you what he knows or doesn't know?"
"How would he do that?" he asks.
"The Word became flesh and dwelt among us." quoth I. "No one has ever seen God, the only begotten God has revealed him."
"Ah," says Watts, "so that's how you know?"
"Indeed," I reply, "God has spoken in various times in different ways, but in these last days he has spoken through his Son."

I have NEVER lost an argument in my head! That's why I seldom trust what I think of my own intellectual power. :)
