I have a theory that any foreign country that wishes to do harm to another does not have to drop any type of explosive bomb. Just find a way to take out the internet/cell phone on a long-term, permanent basis. There will be an entire generation of people who do not know how to get along in life without being tethered to the phone.
I've recently been doing more around the house bad back be damned. While I have my phone in the garage, it merely replaces the transistor radio I once used. I actually went looking for my old radio thinking I might still have it to engage in a little nostalgic garage work but alas, it has gone the way of the 8-track tape player.
I'm also feeling the urge to unplug for longer periods of time. Get back to reading books. Taking walks. Trying out that small-talk thing that makes be anxious at times.
I could not agree more. In fact I am probably one of only a handful of people under 50 in the silicon valley that does NOT have the internet in my own home. I will not allow it. Yes my wife and I both have smart phones but that is out of necessity and I even have my browser capabilities blocked on that. I use the internet at work or I must intentionally go to a wifi spot to do other work. I refuse to fall into that temptation to just waste countless hours surfing the internet. I have enough distraction with TV. Something my wife and I have also eliminated for season in our house. If not for sports honestly I wouldn't have cable.
My goal in the next few years is moving out of CA to a more rural area and spending the remaining years of my life more outdoors and slowing down that living like the people I am currently surrounded with in my area.
I'm amazed by how many people I know that think they can't live without the internet.

My 2 cents.
