Growing up in SoCal in the 70's and 80's, this we knew. There was always that "one guy" as the article pointed out. Now I grew up in a rather Upper Middle Class neighborhood in the Inland Empire and this wasn't much of an issue in our school district but the one just south of us had tales of this kind of stuff going on.
As for that "one guy" who could shave in Jr. High, he constantly had to deal with stories of being held back or being a narc. Nope. Just genetics. His older brother and dad had the same issues growing up. Just peaked early.

I kind of did too as my first chest hair came in at 17 and I couldn’t grow a mustache or beard until I was in my 30’s.
