Most meaningful and culturally significant halftime show, perhaps. But for me, the best overall Super Bowl halftime performance ever was Prince at Super Bowl XLI in 2007.

I think U2s was the greatest given the way they responded to 9/11. Others that were very great: Prince, Springsteen, and The Who. Middling performances: The Rolling Stones, Coldplay/Beonce.
Timberlake last night was about as boring as it could get. Terrible. Even worse than Katy Perry but not as cringe-worthy as Miley Cyrus/Alan Thicke.

On the positive side, they moved away from too many performers and focused on one. Now if they could once again land some talent...

I'm showing my age, but I hadn't really heard much of Bruno Mars' stuff until his Superb Owl performance and thought to myself: "This lad is talented".

I typically walk away with a "meh" response to these performances, but Lady Gaga's performance actually made me realize how talented she is. I'd never really thought that before her halftime performance, which is the opposite of how it usually happens.

While it wasn't a halftime show, Whitney Houston's Star Spangled Banner before the '91 Super Bowl was pretty amazing. How many national anthems do you know that have been released as a single, not once but twice?

So about every year when they announce who's going to be performing at the Super Bowl I watch this performance because it doesn't get any better.

Oh, AND IT WAS LIVE MUSIC.
