Regardless of where one stands politically, evangeicalism, and more broadly, Christianity have survived far more extreme personalities.

Read the article. It isn't about Trump or Moore nor is it about the end of Christianity. It has to do with the term "evangelical" and what it meant and what it means.

I agree! I saw links to this article floating around for a day or so and wasn't interested in reading it because "New Yorker" (right there with ya, skilletboy) but when Keller linked to it and said it was from him, I decided to read.

I see your point about it being a discussion of the word. It is a word I have never really understood. It was an interesting read.
I have only heard it used by media to describe voters who seem to have the "wrong" the views or vote the wrong way. Additionally, I don't think i have ever heard anyone refer to themselves as evangelical.

There's probably a reason you don't hear call themselves that. I pastor a church that is part of the Evangelical Free Church of America. We renamed the church and brought the word "evangelical" inside so *we* can define it. The way the media uses it seems to always be negative. I loved Keller's comment "When I used the word to describe myself in the nineteen-seventies, it meant I was not a fundamentalist. If I use the name today, however, it means to hearers that I *am.*" Spot on.
