I commend the author for her self-awareness. The funny thing is, I don't tend to see irony for irony... I only see sloppy, goofily dressed, insincere people and think, "probably want to avoid that one".
Irony will dimenish in time because the next generation will see it and want to be different, while the hipsters may mature out this phase too.

Maybe I was in marching band waaaay too long, but I don't see how playing the trombone is an outmoded hobby. Using a typewriter, yes.
