"Mr. Hallatt had been banned by Trader Joe’s from setting foot in its stores, but he had devised ways to shop undetected and keep his enterprise afloat.

At various times, he relied on a fake mustache and a wig, and once dressed in drag, the podcast StartUp reported last year. On another visit, he went for a more subtle look: a gray pinstripe suit and wire-rimmed glasses."

Bummer. Kind of liked him. Not that I'm advocating his behaviour but something about creatively getting around "the man" has always appealed to me.

I'm exactly the same way. I enjoy vigilante characters, at least the harmless ones.

We didn't have a Trader Joes in KCMO, so two of my friends started a business where they would take orders online from people, then drive a reefer truck to St. Louis, but the HUGE order there and then bring it back and distribute it at a central location at a small mark up. I got boondoggled into driving that truck one morning when I thought I was doing a ride along. Trader Joes eventually opened stores here and their business model was gone, but it was good fun and money while it lasted.
