It sound d like early U2, but based on that song alone, I wouldn't have bought the album.

Me neither. My first experience with U2 was "Sunday Bloody Sunday" in 1983 and it blew me away. I still prefer the early years over the more recent albums.

That is a powerful song, one that has stayed in my head even years later. My favorite song of their earlier works. I started with and loved Joshua Tree but I'm a few years behind you there.

I'm seeing them in concert in a few weeks. I imagine the show will be nearly identical to this performance.
