I've seen other pictures of old Olympic facilities. None seem to end well. It baffles me why a city would want such a boondoggle, but perhaps that's more a reflection on how I see the olympics as an organization.

I absolutely love the Olympics, both winter and summer. I completely understand the need for building state-of-the-art facilities for them, but you'd think a smart city planner would figure out how to turn them into something that helped the community after the Olympics were over.
And yes, the Olympics organization (in my opinion) reeks of corruption.

Yes. Proper prior planning! But I don't know what type of limitations may be put upon the cities.
And yes... Didn't mean for my negative opinion of the organization to taint my opinion of the athletes and the level of competition. That I highly respect; the sacrifice the athletes make to perform at that level is worthy of the uptmost respect.

For sure! The people who are being hurt the most are the athletes and the people who live in the communities after the Olympics are done with.

London's have fared much better, but the idea of legacy was a pivotal thing in that games. They've still fallen short of many targets, especially sporting participation. The medals 'bump' will also abruptly finish for the GB team in the next Olympics.
