I've done that. It works great. Much better than the old C clamp method.

Glad to get confirmation on this. I use the C clamp and never feel comfortable doing it. This looks perfect. I even have an old calking gun I can cut up to make this.
Not what I expected. This IS actual genius. Cool
Well crap, now I have the need to cut up a perfectly good caulk gun.
