And yet...Here we are.
I've thought about this many times, but it seems so ingrained in how we all communicate now that cutting it off actually leaves you disconnected from certain things that for better or worse seem necessary.
As for ditching the cell phone...that ship has sailed.
I'm interested to hear my fellow GM's thoughts on how they have tackled this.

Yep, it's certainly a tradeoff. I usually end up being on Facebook about once a week, and even then it feels like too much. But still I need it for certain things.
While I am old, what you say is especially true for teens who actually miss out on part of socialization that happens via phone/online. It's a weird world we live in.

I use a Windows Phone and its great (this is not a plug) I love it as a phone and it does everything else you REALLY need, and most apps do not come to it. Problem solved. As for being disconnect from things, I think it forces you to realize what you are truly connect to. A social media connection is just an illusion, if you want to be connected to something, someone, pick up the phone, or go and visit. I do not have social media in 99.99% of my life and I am sorry others feel it is important

I've slowly been deleting my social apps/accounts and I haven't missed it at all. Now if I could just get other people to do it...
