DON'T built a Bluetooth speaker! I have a really nice Bose Soundlink Color that sounds wonderful. BUT... Bluetooth has a limited range (on purpose) and sometimes things just won't connect even though everything is right.
Instead, I built an Airplay speaker from a Raspberry Pi and a DAC card. I have it plugged into my stereo and I can stream from anywhere in WiFi range. The set up I used allows for other streaming services too.
I should probably finish my how-to blog post and pin it here sometime.
I'd be interested in seeing this! I have a bluetooth speaker that works fine, but I only use it in my house, and the speaker is never more than 15 feet from the source.
Yeah, I don't mean to diss Bluetooth, I'm listening to it right now, the problem is when I get a few rooms away it stutters. But with a Wi-Fi connected device as long as both are connected to the network, the music streams. I'll try to get the blog post done. It needs some editing, I kind of rambled about selecting the right DAC.
