You make a very valid point. However, I would add that the largest companies in any industry are typically the ones with the most data and therefore more sensitive to market moves. Also, the analysts covering the large public brewers always have their finger on the pulse of market upticks and downturns so if they are being cautious, there may be some validity to the claim.
That being said, I think your comment is supported by this quote at the end of the article:
""We see a very recent slowdown in the craft industry; it's still too early to say whether there's a trend."
You make a very good point. Small craft breweries are not spending money on research like this where the big guys can. And they need to understand the competition.
