Now THIS is interesting. I took a course in college called Environmental History, and one of the reoccurring themes was that urban sprawl was probably one of the worst things to happen to the natural side of our country.
My thing is this: it's not that in many cases we need MORE homes; there are plenty of empty and old ones hanging about. Why not fix those up instead of dozing them for a new Bed Bath & Beyond?
(Full disclosure: I grew up in a 120-year old home that my parents renovated by hand. I'm biased.)
