Of all the friends I have taped to trees or flagpoles over the years, none have ever suffered any injuries (excepting their pride) or death. Me thinks there is a bit more to this story. (not that my sympathies lie with the criminal)

I also am suspicious, but this is pretty far outside my circle of influence, so I'll leave it at that.
Even if the grand jury passes, he still faces civil liability... sadly.
