Interesting short movie about whether charcoal grilling actually does alter flavor. Basically, the answer is "sort of". Look, I like good flavor but my gas grill gets the job done 90% of the time, all the time.

I have both. Charcoal is better when you want to add smoke, which is what really alters taste. It is also the only way to achieve low and slow. Gas is great for when you want to do something faster. I don't know why people argue one over the other since both have their respective merits. Hence the reason to own both.

Great point. When you've got the time and want to sit back and enjoy the grilling process as well as its results, charcoal is awesome. The main thing for me with the gas grilling has been the consistency with which I can try things. I can use the same settings over and over and get better at different aspects when it seemed like with charcoal it was hard to have the consistency I needed to improve at it. But like you said, they both have their good and bad points.
