This looks like a pretty cool little project. Probably the coolest part about it is the design in the center, which apparently was created with a simple dremel tool.
The nice thing about pallet projects is you can afford to experiment and make mistakes. Sometimes working with more expensive wood can add a significant amount of pressure to getting cuts exactly right.
