Interesting ruling. I could have seen this one go either way actually. After hearing Spirit's song from a few years before Stairway, I thought they might have a case. I'm sure this will get endless appeals though.

It never should have gone to court. That progression has been around since Bach. Rik Emmett (of Triumph fame) does a great job of explaining why in this video.
