I've been to AutoZone and had this happen (to a much smaller degree) but while physically at the store. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but after a few times into the store, I get the impression that they're not there for their customer service.

Wow, I actually just got angry FOR him. Looks like Autozone may be going the way of Circuit City if they can't provide anything more than just a place to buy parts.

Shop online at Advance Auto parts and enter the discount code from Retail Me Not. Then pick up at the closest store. Counter monkeys become irrelevant.
