Great read. I recently saw Earth Wind & Fire along with Chicago. Both are what I'd now call 'touring' bands - as they aren't doing any new materials - but each group left me with quite a different feel. EWT still has the amazing Philip Bailey at the helm. That voice and those tunes - still sounds the same after all this time. His sone was even doing backup vocals and an occasional solo. Contract them with Chicago. Basically the horns are all back yet the absence of Pete Cetera was - in my opinion - put such a huge dent in the sound it wasn't the same group... At all. The singer who tried to fill his shoes never looked up from his guitar, never acknowledged the audience and was lost unto himself. Not to mention, sounded nothing like Citera. So, whoever is the heart and soul of a group, makes the group. I will not be going back to see Chicago again. EWT? Most def.
