I grew up in Detroit, left in 1980 and the last time I was there was 2012. It is a wasteland in large parts of the city. I live in Chicago for 12 years. Taxes there are high, parking is expensive, many of the highways are toll roads, and they still have run out of money.
That said, I wonder how much cherry-picking went on here. I'm sure we could find some Republican cities that are a wreck in other ways. Just sayin'
I agree. It felt very one-sided. I have no doubt both parties are equally to blame in their respective cities. It would make for an interesting study on a larger scale.
I can assure you if there was any town or city that had Republicans in charge for the last thirty years that has any problems at all we would have heard about it from the liberal media.
While I am all for intellectual honesty, I have to agree with you. I can not think of a city that has been run down from too much individual liberty and reasonably low taxes. Corruption or cronyism, perhaps but not from an entrenched libertarian/conservative political value system.
I know there have been plenty of terrible GOP mayors, problem is when they are bad they lose elections and dynamics shift. In this case we are talking about the destruction of once great American cities.

I'm sure it is the Koch brothers, or the lizard men, or maybe their heads were messed up by the chemtrails.

It probably is one sided, but at this point in time cities and states run by Democrats for a long time have tended to struggle. See Tyler Cowen's musings, for examples. http://marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2016/03/core-differences-republicans-democrats.html">http://marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2016/03/core-differences-republicans-democrats.html
