I have looked at this for our land. The only issue I have is a chain saw is not the best at long continued cuts. It takes a good chunk of the wood out on each cut. It also needs some good planing afterwards. I lean to the actual band sawmill approach. Granted the price is more than double. But would be more logical for more than a number of logs/boards. You are still going to spend about $2,000 with the need for a decent chainsaw and planer. That is if you are going cheap on the planer. One last piece of logistics that is needed is something to move a huge log that weighs hundreds of pounds. Im looking at tractors with grapples myself. Anyway my two cents. ;-)

I agree. This might be good for the weekend warrior but it is not a long-term solution. However, for someone who is trying to leave the grid for the first time or just get interested in a new hobby/skill, it might be a way to get started.
I also wondered about the planer. Seems that would be a must in any situation.
And yes, moving logs is a major issue. Those darn things never roll the way you want them to.
