Very proud of this as an Auburn Alum. Auburn has and still is a relatively Conservative campus and shared amongst most of the student body. In this political age where the Liberals like to paint Southern folks as hating Muslims, this disproves their case. Also as a Yankee that has lived most of his life now in the Southeast this also is a testament to Christians from what I have witnessed. War Eagle!

Underscores the typical conservative's love and respect for individual people, rather than identity groups.

As a pretty libertarian guy who rejects many progressive ideas and the approach of identity politics I, and most people I know who have similar opinions, see people almost always through the perspective of the individual. It's anticdotal, but I believe, not uncommon.
I would not be surprised that if this experiment took place at other southern university campuses the results would be similiar.

@aaronfletcher: I find this to be a common theme among thinking conservatives. I think it was Tom Selleck who said something similar in an interview.
@Chet_Manly: Your first thought captures nicely a feeling I've struggled to put into words. Well said.

I wonder how this experiment might have went with an older demographic on a public street.

Interesting thought. I wonder if the hug may be a little much in the situation you propose, as an older generation may not be interested in such a thing anyway. Handshake? Would love to see it. I think that on our couches, watching our biased news source of choice, it's easy to spout nonsense on FB and other outlets, but in real life, I think the average individual is actually wuite a bit more reasonable.
