I heard an interview with Brian May on NPR and they asked about wearing out the tape with overdubs. He said it was overstated. They could see that the tape was getting thin so they recorded the mix down onto another so they could continue. So they didn't technically wear out the tape, they did wear it thin. :)

It's not Hell Bent for Leather but Honda did use the intro of Judas Priest's The Hellion/Electric Eye for a minivan commercial a couple of years ago.
