Both parties exist to serve their clients. The mistake people make is in thinking that the voters are their clients.

Exactly. The voters are sheep led to feel empowered by the act of voting so that they will help justify the financing of the parties to ensure the clients get what they want. And the voters will then be the sales team that tries to spread the message to as many people as possible. Brilliant pyramid scheme.
