I recommend Settlers of America Trails to Rails. It takes the mechanics of Catan and adds some new mechanics that balances the game out very nicely.
I've been playing Ticket to Ride and 7 Wonders for about a year now, and I love them. I'm absolutely bored to death by Settlers of Catan. Dominion and Ascension are chill though.
