Interesting article, of course the author could not help herself to make the liberal attack on golf. From my perspective, I grew up playing golf. I have never care for tiger but I cannot believe that he inspired that many to really start the game. I played on the team in high school. Played it in my twenties and pretty much stopped playing all together. It is expensive and not really worth the whole time away from my family.

I'm 30 and obsessed with golf. Play every weekend if i can. I think the game does have to evolve, but when talking about the closing of all these courses the fact that needs to be taken into consideration was should they have been built in the first place. In my opinion, the answer is no. You have to look at who you are building the course for and where it is. I think there is also a flight away from urban sprawl and people are moving back into the cities (at least in Texas) and thus all these cookie cutter suburbia communities that have golf courses are suffering. Great golf courses, great country clubs in great locations arent suffering at all. Yes it is an expensive sport, i wish i were cheaper, but i love the time it takes. Gets me outside with my buddies, drinking and having a great time. I love the game and i think guys like Jordan Speith, Rickie Fowler and Rory will get the kids playing again
