Imagine this : perhaps the most important street photographer of the twentieth century was a nanny who kept everything to herself. Nobody had ever seen her work and she was a complete unknown until the time of her death. For decades Vivian’s work hid in the shadows until decades later (in 2007), historical hobbyist John Maloof bought a box full of never developed negatives at a local auction for $380.

Oh, you have got to see the movie. It was wonderful! Great pics and a great story of discovery.

I will have to check the movie out. It sounds like a story I would certainly enjoy. I love a glimpse into the past as it was.

My question would be why did he pay so much? If you look at the picture of what he bought and picture yourself as a bidder, would you pay $380? I wouldn't.

I can understand that. That box definitely looks unassuming. I wouldn't have forked over the cash either, but then I have never been much of a gambler.
