As a kid, being the eldest, I had the top bunk. The ceiling in our room was eight-foot. The top of the mattress was 6-1/2-feet off the floor (18-inches from the ceiling). There was a ceiling fan. My brother got hot while he slept, so he would turn on the fan. My brother is a prick.

ouch. I'm pretty sure, at some point, someone would lose an appendage unfolding this sucker too.
