A tragic but interesting piece of American History I had not heard of. Thanks for sharing this. It is hard to imagine a catastrophe of this size that eclipsed the Titanic sinking has been lost to time.

Yes it is. The Sultana Descendants' Association is trying to get this disaster more recognition. The Sultana disaster was overshadowed primarily by the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. There could have been an attempted cover up too, but that is just speculation on my part.
