Interesting. So this works well for areas that offer lower rates after hours by the power company. Unfortunately, most do not fall into this area. Also at 13K this is an expensive battery backup, but is made easier by the tax incentives etc. It will be interesting to see how this product does down the road. Many tax incentives on a state and national level are about to expire. There is a temporary bump in sale because of folks that can afford to pay the upfront expense then capture on the taxes later on. From a preppers perspective this seems pretty unattractive. Plain old car batteries for backup would be a better fit as they are the cheapest and easiest to find. Anyway, just my rambling two cents.

I fail to see the point in CA, where Tesla is based, when you can no longer live off the grid, legally. A concept I find quite offensive actually.

If CA cares so much about "sustainable" energy and green living, then why in the hell wouldn't you allow people and technology the next logical step.

I live just out side of San Jose, Ca... and we get sunshine literally like 300 days out of the year.... YET, even with a solar system, I am not "allowed" to be disconnected from the grid. Even at 13K, plus solar set up, that is a drop in the bucket for housing prices in the bay area. Even at these prices it would only take about 10 years to pay for itself by simply eliminating your electricity bill... So glad our liberal overlords know what's best.
