"One of the problems with culling wildlife is that once you've gotten into the business of killing some animals to save other animals, it's awfully hard to get out of it."
The article is tainted to benefit the writer. Needs some perspective. For example, "It's shooting white-tailed deer (5,321) to save various plant species and the small fauna, like rabbits, that eat them." Seems like a lot on the surface, right? Well, I live in Arkansas and hunters harvested over 208,000 whitetail deer last year in my state alone. And yet we are still overpopulated with deer.
As for European Starlings (as well as English House Sparrows), kill 'em all. They are not indigenous to the U.S. and do more harm than good.
Indeed. I probably should have clarified that it did not include homo sapiens Although there are plenty killed by the government each year, both intentionally and accidentally.

By the way, did anyone else notice that they killed more rhesus monkeys than wolves or mountain lions? I never knew we had primate issues in the U.S.

True. However, upon reading that statement, I immediatly thought of a recent trip to Walmart. Many possibilities.
