This reminds me of the time I walked up to the liquor store counter with a sixer of Miller High Life and the guy standing next to me took one look and sneered "You aren't actually going to drink that are you!?" before giving a hearty laugh and walking out. I calmly went home and enjoyed my award winning American-style lager. The hops in the bottle don't make the man my friend.
So, let's go back to practically no choice in crappy beer? No thanks. My days of drinking a head ache in a can (Bud) or Coor's or Miller are over. I'd much rather spend a little extra and get something that has some flavor than go back to lifeless mainstream beer.
A vegan, a person who does crossfit and a craft beer lover walk into a bar. Everyone in the bar knows in five minutes.
All kidding aside, I like both. I keep a few craft beers in the fridge next to my Busch Light. Said fridge is next to my liquor cabinet where there is also an array of choices including five types of bourbon. I prefer to have choices.
I do agree that some of the craft beers go a little too far and taste like shizzle. But perhaps beer is much like art in that every has a varying opinion of what they like or don't like. I vote we all just drink and try to get along.
I heard that joke as a vegan, a CrossFitter, and an atheist, but I know what you mean. I am definitely not one to throw stones about fancy beer, but I also just like beer.
"Life's too short to drink piss beer." - Me...when asked why I don't drink Bud Light Lime...
That said, I think the author has a chip on her shoulder. Or she's never had a really good craft beer. While I think overly hopped IPA's are getting out of hand, a good craft beer; even one made by a corporation like AB or Coors, is a good beer.
And there are crap craft beers. Not everything needs to be thrown into the beer (I'm looking at you Shock Top!). But to be creative with beer is what makes craft beer interesting. You know some guy somewhere was looking at old rum and whisky barrels and starts thinking about all the flavor that's been absorbed by that wood and says, "Self...what if I aged my beer, like whisky and wine, in that barrel?" I give you Innis and Gunn as Exhibit A.
So to echo Razorback...let's drink and be happy. You might like Coors Light...I don't. You order yours, I'll order mine and over our respective beers we'll solve the worlds problems. Or just have a good time!
I have drunk a lot of craft beers here in Oregon, some are yuck and some are great. Southern Tier [not from Oregon] makes a fantastic dessert beer Creme Brulee Stout! I have in my fridge Sessions [made in Hood River, Oregon] Black Lager, a perfect balance for me.

The author speaks truth. When I drink beer, I want something refreshing. So few of the craft beers I've tried fit that category.
