I have been doing this for years. I buy the bulk rolls of velcro so that I can custom cut each piece to match it's use. I use it for computer/phone cables, extension cords, tie-down straps, etc. I also keep a couple of really long pieces in the truck so I can strap down larger items such as gas cans when I go to fill them up.

I do the same with velcro. But, at the same time for some reason my wife calls me a "cord hoarder". Not too sure what she means by that. ;-)

Not sure I am ahead of the game necessarily. Chances are I got frustrated with a cord at one point and velcro was the only thing laying around. That and the fact my OCD is running rampant.

Great idea. I've used a product called the V-Strap that you can cut to any length to use for cords, hoses, strapping stuff to the car and in my shop to hang things.
