I call BS on this in such a big way. You will blow through $4000 in a blink even with the cheapest products/materials. This cost also does not include as the article states for tools, permits, etc.
Lets run down a few costs:
Mexican Sink $300
Other Sinks - $200
Electrical, switches, wiring, - $500 (blame the high price of copper)
Plumbing - $400
Toilet - $150 (composting $500+)
Insulated Doors - $300 ($150X2)
Windows (6 shown in pictures at $120 per window) - $720
Sub-Flooring ($35 per subfloor of 4X8 at least 6 needed) - $210
OSB and Roofing - $1000
Ceder Siding (shown) - $1200 (cedar is expensive!!)
Concrete Footings - $400
Survey work - $250
Countertops - $150
You yeah framing wood! - $700 minimum
Flooring - $500 for laminate.
That is a CONSERVATIVE $6300+ for this house. That DOES NOT INCLUDE: Tools, Permits ($1000 in the cheapest counties), and other 'punch out' items.
In reality this would be more $20,000. I would suggest you look at sites like Tumbleweed Tiny Houses for correct costs. http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/">http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/ They have free cost estimators.
