I have constant problems with my upper back and can never find some one with the time or strength to give me a deep enough back rub. Tennis ball is a brilliant idea, Ill have to try it this evening.

Good luck, man! Hope it helps. It really made a huge difference on my neck. It's a little awkward rolling around on the floor like that, but hey, if deep massage is what's needed, then that's what you have to do! Go get 'em!

Some problems can be fixed by creating more balance in the body by strengthening an area. I don't know the cause of your back issues, but my upper back tightness and aching went away after I started doing a lot of rows with cables, dumbbells or pull-ups, to strengthen that area. The ball massage may help relieve an issue but (for me) strengthening the area solved the issue. Just one possibility, doesn't mean it would apply to you, but it is worth mentioning.

Try a lacrosse ball instead of a tennis ball. They are a solid hard rubber and don't deform like a tennis ball.

I second the lacrosse ball, they are great for this kind of work.
