In the graph, the left-hand side shows the annual income for typical, full-time workers in different metro areas. The right-hand side adjusts that figure for the cost of living in each metro area.

No surprise that Blue states/cities have a huge drop. What is also interesting and no surprise is that they block out the 'rising' lines. I would assume and personally can attest to the fact that Red states/cities(of the few) have a better outcome with regard to income.
