Wait a second. If we've known since the 1900's (when exactly in the 1900's?), why is it that we're just now digging? This is actually quite intriguing news, as a matter of fact. I would much rather "news" broadcast stations cover stuff like this than inundating us with updates on Justin Bieber's latest antics.
It would appear as though there is still some real science and discovery happening on Easter Island and that is most certainly news.
So pictures of the first known excavations were dated at 1919 though record keeping was very poorly conducted and, until now, much of it had been forgotten about. There are still many questions surrounding these the construction and transportation of these statues.
"Although many viewers are surprised to learn the moai actually do have bodies, that information is not a recent discovery: many of the moai are situated fully above ground and are therefore displayed in their entirety, and some of them even sport arms and red hats.
In recent years the Easter Island Statue Project (EISP) has undertaken efforts to excavate and study some of the moai, thereby revealing previously hidden portions of the statues."

Ummm, why is this news? Archeologists have known since early 1900's that Moai have bodies... I think someone posted a prank of sorts
