Actually, it is. The game isn't the point. The value is in the technological hurdles they had to overcome in order to get the machinery to do this.

This is an awesome use of a grant. While the project itself may seem trivial, the research behind it is widely applicable. This is one step closer to automated machines that can accurately predict human movements and behaviors and act accordingly.

You're right, that IS pretty amazing to think about. Just funny that they chose to use rock/paper/scissors. I'm all for goofy grant usage anyway.
