Man, what a great move. I own a couple Saddleback items, and couldn't be happier. The new "love marked" items will make the pieces even more personal.

I don't have anything against scarred leather, but this is definitely a cost-cutting measure being passed off as a "feature". Don't piss on folks and tell them it's raining.

Actually it's more expensive to select and place the scars.

Not at all. Bags with scars were previously sold as seconds for a discounted price. Scarred leather was thrown away during the current manufacturing process, and while I'm all for reducing waste, it is also going to cut costs (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's being sold as a feature which I find a little insulting). In addition, hides with prominent scarring are less expensive than those without.

This is a different manufacturing model that includes different steps for these scars. Instead of weeded them out, they are selecting them in. It takes just as much time and the large damaging scars are not included anyways. What's not to believe?

They explain all this on the website.

There are certainly a lot of other options if you don't like SBL.
