With the school shootings that have happened I think it's smart to have at least some armed people on campus. #1 rule make sure they're sane. I've known my share of nutty teachers from junior high to college and I wouldn't want to see any of them armed. Otherwise well trained, safe, sane and responsible gun toting teachers would make sense.
Protecting children is NEVER a waste of time. This is a great idea and more schools should start this up. Even if a shooting never occurs at this school at least everyone who attends know the teachers that love them will be able to protect them.
Not only should qualified people in schools be armed, but if we want to keep protecting the kids, bring back recess (if it's been taken away), remove soda machines and junk food dispensers from schools. Promote responsible citizenship and financial responsibility too!
I agree, school shootings are rare, but are a threat, but so is heart disease and screwing up in life because kids aren't prepared for the real world.
The chance of a school shooting (any shooting, not necessarily with a fatality) at any given school each year: 1 in 53,925. As a comparison, the chance of dying in a car crash 7775. School shootings are not even close to a prevalent cause of harm to our children.

This isn't common sense, it's a waste of time. School shootings only make the news because they're so rare.
