I'm sure it's decent kit, but I wouldn't buy it but only because it has "BG" on everything. That guy's a fraud. Now if it was Les Stroud or anyone else then...

A lot of it is kind of junky. When looking for a new camping knife, I looked at the BG drop point. The grip was not bad, but the weight didn't feel right (too heavy in handle). Sad that Gerber makes these tools.
BTW: I opted for a Cold Steel GI Tanto.

Well then... I really, really recommend you get one. the Tanto is an inexpensive fixed blade ($30) but its quality is close to what competitors offer at 2x the money. My only issue with it is that it is rather big - it'd be nice if there was 3.5-4'' version. Outside of that... it's simple, sharp, tough and it makes a beautiful click noise when its re-sheathed.
Based on my impression, I'd say that the Recon or Spartan would be easily worth $200+ if they have similar build quality as the GI T.
